Þingvangur has handed over a terraced house with 6 apartments and staff facilities in Stuðlaskarð Hafnarfjörður to the National Association of Developmental Aid. The house is a wooden house on one floor, each apartment is 67 square meters and the staff facilities are 20 square meters.
Þroskahjálp places a lot of emphasis on disabled people being able to enjoy the human rights involved in owning their own home. It was Þroskahjálp´s construction fund that had the building built, but the residents rent their apartments. The residential center is run with support from Hafnarfjörður town, but there is an operating agreement with the town. The agreement has no precedents because the individuals themselves, with appropriate assistance, will take care of the organization and operation of the residential core. The six residents are friends and were moving out of their parents’ house for the first time. Þingvangur wishes them the best of luck.
