Þingvangur has handed over a townhouse with 6 apartments and staff facilities at Stuðlaskarð in Hafnarfjörður to the National Association of Intellectual Disabilities.
The building is a single-storey timber house. Each apartment is 67 square metres, and the staff facility is 20 square metres.
The association places strong emphasis on ensuring that people with disabilities can enjoy the human right of having a home of their own.
The building was commissioned by the association’s construction fund, while the residents rent their apartments. The residential cluster is operated with support from the Municipality of Hafnarfjörður, under an operating agreement with the municipality.
The agreement is unprecedented, as the residents themselves will, with appropriate support, take responsibility for the organisation and operation of the residential cluster.
The six residents are friends and have moved out of their parents’ homes for the first time. Þingvangur warmly congratulates them.
